OUR WORK AND PROJECTS

Since we were founded in 2018, Shines Children (Uganda) UK Supporters has supported some huge changes to the lives of the people in the communities we support in Masindi District, Uganda.

Before we became involved, the mechanical pump - the sole source of clean water for hundreds of people - had broken down, and noone had funds to repair it. Repairing that borehole was the beginning of a journey that has included funding access to basic healthcare, helping people to start small livestock businesses, providing health and nutrition education, and supporting measures to reduce child marriage and teenage pregnancies.

Perhaps our greatest achievement has been the construction and operation of a primary school, in the village of Miirya, that was 7km from the nearest school - too far for such young children to walk. Education is so important for communities in poverty, as it enables the growing generation to access better jobs and to support their families.

The school has become the hub of the community. Once the children have gone home, local women use the building for meetings of their Village Saving and Lending Associations, and community meetings and training courses can be held.

We have also supported the development of a community "model farm" adjacent to the school site. Here, local people can learn about farming methods, and the food that is grown is used to provide breakfast and lunch for the children during the school day.

We are always seeking donations to help with these projects and the many other initiatives we would like to develop and progress in the future. Contact us on info@shinesuk.org for more information on the different ways you can support us, or donate now using the button below.
